New £1bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme will accelerate momentum towards Net Zero Carbon
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
The Grant Scheme which is being delivered by Salix, will offer £1bn of grant funding which aligns with BEIS’ new mission and priorities: fighting coronavirus, backing business, unleashing innovation and tackling climate change. The scheme will also encourage green investment, supporting the Government’s net zero and clean growth goals.
We have lobbied policy makers for some time on the merits of accelerating the decarbonisation of the public sector estate and this is a game changing scheme that we are able to deliver at pace for our public sector customers. We welcome this announcement and our team are already preparing applications on behalf of our clients where the funds awarded will be used to decarbonise their estates.
Paul Burnett, Asset+ Managing Director
The scheme will finance up to 100% of the cost of capital for energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects that meet the scheme criteria within public sector non-domestic buildings, including central government departments and arm’s length bodies in England only and will deliver the following objectives:
- Deliver stimulus to the energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation sectors, supporting jobs.
- Deliver significant carbon savings within the public sector.
